In order to get dark enough for competition, I had to (read: my wife had to) paint on 6 coats of Pro Tan. This combined with hitting the tanning beds for 3 months gave my pasty Oregonian skin a dark enough color. On competition day, one coat of Dream Tan was also required before both the morning and afternoon shows. This gave me an even darker appearance and added a golden tint to my skin. To gain a little extra shine, my wife sprayed me down with a quick layer of Pam cooking spray. Be forewarned that using the strong smelling butter-flavored Pam is a surefire way to anger a room full of starving competitors. It took one week for all the orange color to wear off.
